The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist and Publisher of The Eagle Online, Mr Dotun Oladipo, describing his passing as a huge loss to the Nigerian media industry.

Oladipo, who died at the age of 56, was described by the council as a committed journalist, media entrepreneur and respected colleague whose contributions, particularly to the growth of digital journalism in Nigeria, would remain memorable.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, the council said it received news of Oladipo’s death with shock and sadness, describing his passing as painful and unfortunate.

“The NUJ FCT Council is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dotun Oladipo, a committed journalist, media entrepreneur and respected colleague whose contributions to journalism, especially digital media, will remain memorable,” the statement said.

The council noted that Oladipo distinguished himself throughout his career through dedication, professionalism and a strong commitment to the development of journalism in Nigeria.

According to the NUJ FCT Council, his contributions to the profession and digital media have left an enduring mark, while his death has created a significant vacuum within the Nigerian media community.

The council also commended Oladipo’s courage and commitment to professional journalism, stressing that his impact would continue to be felt by colleagues and younger journalists who benefited from his experience and contributions to the industry.

The FCT NUJ leadership extended its heartfelt condolences to Oladipo’s wife, children and other members of his family, as well as his colleagues at The Eagle Online and the wider Nigerian media community.

It prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and asked God to grant his family, colleagues and other mourners the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
