Kwara State councils  of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) and National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), have congratulated Comrade Alhassan Yahaya on his election as the new national president of the NUJ.

The three unions in separate statements issued in Ilorin described Yahaya’s victory at the poll as well deserved.

The NUJ, in a statement signed by the council’s chairman and secretary, AbdulLateef ‘Lanre Ahmed and Olayinka Alaya, said the overwhelming support of the delegates for Yahaya at the just concluded 8th Triennial National Delegates’ Conference of the union, held in Owerri, Imo State attested to his popularity and wider acceptability among the candidates that vied for the  job.

“The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is enthused with the emergence of Comrade Alhassan Yahya as the new president of the union.

“As a council that has followed the pre-election intrigues and horse trading with keen interest, we are not surprised at the overwhelming support of delegates across the 37 Councils for Alhassan Yahaya, who is the immediate past deputy president of the union.

“We also use this opportunity to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the immediate past president, Chief Chris Isiguso for his leadership quality that manifested in the achievements recorded throughout his six years as primus inter pares in NUJ,” the statement added.

It hailed the sportsmanship stance of another presidential candidate, Malam Mohammed Garba on the outcome of the election, urging all members of the union across the country to emulate his exemplary conduct.

The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in a statement signed by its chairperson, Hajia  Bola Ayantola and the secretary, Mariam Abdulkadir-Yusuf  expressed delight over Yahaya’s victory at the poll.
