Nurses’ Group Honours Delta Governor, Oil Agency Chief

Nurses Across the Borders International have honoured the Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and the chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Obukohwo John Nani for their contributions to mitigating the impact of climate change on the state.

While the governor was named the pioneer recipient of the Climate Change Champion, Nani received an award as a Global Climate Change Advocate.

The event took place at the just-concluded United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Cop 28 Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirate (UAE).

The group said the awards were in recognition of their unflinching environmental sustainability activities in the state, especially Nani from his days as the state’s commissioner for environment.

As a show of gratitude, Nani dedicated his award to the immediate past governor of the state, Ifeanyi Okowa.

In his acceptance speech, Nani appreciated Okowa who appointed him as commissioner for environment and provided him with the enabling environment to function.

As commissioner, Nani laid the foundation for the climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies in the state.

He also poured encomium on Governor Oborevwori for sustaining the legacy left by his predecessor saying, “The current governor Sheriff Oborevwori has equally increased the tempo of the past governor with the support the state has given DESOPADEC to carry out its community development initiatives. The current prevailing peace in the state has in no small way contributed to the successes recorded so far by the commission in its community engagement.”
