‘Nursing Not Only Call To Care For Patients, But Also Communities’

Olubukola Mary Akinpelu, a passionate nurse with 10 years of experience in practice has stated that nursing is not only a call to care for the human body, but also for communities.

Akinpelu fondly called #Mylifeassugar is from Lagelu local government, Ibadan in Oyo state to the family of Mr & Mrs Akinpelu. She attended East Gate Primary School and completed her secondary school at Federal Government Girls College, Oyo. She also attended Houston Community College before proceeding to Lamar University where she earned a degree in nursing but got licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing

She is a passionate believer in the nursing profession, and specifically believes she isn’t called to care for just the human body, but also for communities. Hence the reason she has gained diverse skills and qualifications to care for the human body and communities.

If there is one Nurse in Nigeria who can use her last penny and drop of blood to fight against improper hygiene and health related issues in communities, her name is “Olubukola Mary Akinpelu”.

The Nurse Educator is a quintessential figure in the fight of quality nursing care for Nigerians.

She independently organized the first health community walk in her state, Which led to the opening and upgrading of dilapidated health centers.

The Lamar university graduate created an online and social media avenue to connect,  a platform she uses as a tool for training nurses and teaching of Health and Wellness to the public

The Nigerian Olubukola had featured as a guest on many Radio and TV broadcast to speak about the roles of Nurses in Healthcare, correct misconception about Nurses and also reveal the uniqueness of Nursing as a Profession.

She has organized health outreach within and outside Nigeria, Online teaching and coaching of over 8000 nurses on self development topics, rebranding process, academics e.t.c

Olubukola has influenced social media mostly with her public health education campaign as well as promotion, sensitization and improved public awareness about Nursing.

She could be described as the “face of Nursing in Nigeria”and this has been proven on many occasions, evidenced by the multiple awards she has received for being a Loyal ambassador of Nursing and was listed by Yessiey Magazine as 100 must influential personality in Africa.

Currently, Olubukola is focused on making younger nurses know that there is life outside nursing, that they can merge their personalities and uniqueness with nursing and thus make nursing more attractive to the public.

She has also contributed tremendously to the growth of modern-day nursing in Nigeria by sponsoring campaigns to salvage the twisted image of nursing by the general public. He writes articles on general issues in nursing as it bothers around “gender disparity and stereotype challenges faced by women and men in Nursing.
