Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has congratulated President Bola Tinubu and assured him of its support to revive the education sector.
National president of the union, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, who gave the assurance in a statement yesterday, also commended former President Muhammadu Buhari for his outstanding strides in the Nigeria project.
He said Buhari’s commitment to a seamless and peaceful transition to the new government was a reference point and evidence that he is a true democrat.
Amba promised to muster support for the new administration to ensure that Tinubu delivers the best of dividends of democracy to the citizens of Nigeria.
He assured President Tinubu that the Nigeria teachers were solidly behind him, and will contribute their quota in galvanising the education sector towards optimum productivity.
He observed that for Nigeria to occupy the desired pride of place educationally among the comity of nations, the teachers of Nigeria demand a decent pay package, which is the implementation of the Teachers Professional Salary Structure.
He added that it will be a morale buster and motivation towards higher performance while emphasising that a decent pay will attract the best brains into the teaching profession.
Amba however decried the unfortunate situation where teachers are retiring in great numbers across the states, leaving the classrooms empty and unmanned as a result of the unwillingness on the part of most governors to employ more teachers to teach the younger citizens, who are our leaders of tomorrow.
