The management of Ekiti Queens FC says it has signed 14 players to enhance its sqaud ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season.
The team manager, Mrs Mojisola Adekanye, disclosed this on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti, saying the new players were invited some months ago from different NWFL Championship teams and had since gone through series of training sessions and friendly matches.
She said the club retained 15 old players while those who could not meet the standard were dropped.
She added that 29 players were currently in the camp for the NWFL 2024/25 football season.
The team is funded by Ekiti government.
Reacting to the development, the Technical Advisor to the state Governor on Sports Development, Dr Olusola Osetoba said that most of the new players were strikers.
Osetoba said the decision was necessary because the management wanted the team to be a formidable and outstanding for the new season.
She commended Gov. Biodun Oyebanji and his wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji for the passion and love for sports.
Osetoba promised not to disappoint the government and Ekiti people for the confidence reposed in her and the officials of the club.
Similarly, the new head coach of the team, Jacob Vandi said it was no longer business as usual because the technical crew had done a lot of work to ensure the team compete effectively.
“With the entries of the new players, we are more than well prepared for the forthcoming league, we are fully ready for the task ahead.
“NWFL is not a child’s play because as premiership players, you must have a lion’s heart to fight your way out.
“Before now, the team have difficulty in scoring goals in the last season but with the help of God and some of our newly signed players to add to the attacking force and attacking midfielders, Ekiti Queens FC will be formidable,” Vandi assured.(NAN).
