The executive chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mal Bola Magaji, disclosed this in Ilorin, the state capital yesterday.

Magaji said that a contingent of 215 members comprising athletes, coaches, secretaries, helpers, interpreters, board members, cleaners and medics will depart Ilorin for Asaba for the 10-day youth games.

He said that the state would only concentrate on sports that are sure to win medals.

“Kwara state will feature in 18 of the 32 sports that would be competed at the competition. We will feature athletes in handball, cricket, badminton and other sports where we can win medals. We know our areas of strength, we don’t want to go for a jamboree,” he stated.

Magaji who said that that the state had recorded a huge success in the history of national youth games, ranking first to tenth on the medal’s table in the previous editions, commended the state governor,  AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration for sustaining an enabling environment through prompt release of funds and improve infrastructural development.

He explained that the athletes were generally under intensive training for more than two months before the postponement which gave them another opportunity and time  to prepare for the competition.

He assured the contingent of the commission’s resolve to leave no stone unturned to achieve more success for the state.

“We have paid for accommodation, feeding and Insurance for our Athletes and their allowances have been paid till date. The Athletes were engaged in open and closed camping. I want to assure you that I shall leave no stone unturned to achieve more success for the state,” he said.
