It will be recalled that an video went viral on social media on Monday showing Vigilante operatives, armed with guns, storming the corps members’ lodge and accusing them of being internet fraudsters despite the corps members showing their identification cards and uniforms.

The operatives were seen beating the female corps member despite her cries for help. In the process, her clothes were torn, leaving her exposed.

Despite this, the operatives continued to beat her. In the video, the corps member was seen begging the security operatives to stop as they continued to hit her.

Responding to the incident, a statement from the Office of the Director of Press at NYSC Headquarters, Caroline Embu, enjoined members of the public to provide adequate security for Corps Members in all their respective places of Primary Assignment and host communities.

“Our findings revealed that a group of operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group forcefully entered a Corps Lodge in Oba, alleging that the place was being used for illegal activities, which has not been substantiated.

“As an aftermath, the matter has been reported to the police while investigations and other necessary actions are ongoing.

“Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of its Corps Members nationwide, and would not condone any individual or group of persons that undermines the security of her Corps Members for whatsoever reasons,” it added.
