The director general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has implored corps members to impact their host communities with laudable projects that would improve the living standard of the residents.
Brigadier General Ahmed stated this in his address to the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two corps members, at Kaduna State Temporary Orientation Camp, Government College Kurmin-Mashi.
According to a press statement by the acting director of information and public relations, Mrs Caroline Embu, the DG said it is important for corps members to show respect for the culture and traditions of the communities they are assigned to and to avoid any behaviour that could bring them on collision with their hosts.
“It is crucial for the corp members to uphold discipline, utilise social media responsibly, and engage actively in all camp activities.”
He advised them to study and adhere strictly to the security tips that were given to them to ensure their safety within and outside the orientation camp, especially when they get to their place of primary assignments and host communities.
The director general said, “We would never send you to where there are security threats. Please desist from embarking on night journeys. And if it is compulsory that you travel, obtain permission from the NYSC officials and your place of primary assignments.”
He specifically warned the corps members to avoid free rides if they want to travel but board vehicles from designated motor parks so as not to expose themselves to danger.
