The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has honoured some corps members for their outstanding contributions to national development through the Community Development Service (CDS).
The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, at the opening ceremony of 2024 CDS activities and Director General’s CDS Award in Abuja on Monday, also honoured staff and collaborating partners who excelled in their endeavours.
The Director General’s CDS Award was instituted in 2021 to encourage and rekindle the interest of corps members, staff and collaborating partners in community development activities in order to promote healthy competition amongst them.
The event, organised under the theme, “Excellence in Action: Celebrating NYSC CDS Success Stories,” has four categories of the award – the best CDS groups, best individual CDS, best CDS officers and best collaborative agencies.
In the best CDS group category, NEMA CDS group, Borno State, emerged first, education and ICT CDS group, Adamawa, second and
Legal Aid CDS group and Taraba State won third position.
However, Wisdom Wealth Nduchika with registration number: FC/22B/5682/FCT emerged best in the award of best individual CDS; Abdullahi Alhaji Nuhu with registration number; KT/23A/0015/Katsina State emerged second best while Mathew Maxwell Ohiare with registration number; ED/22B2203/Edo State and Akwuobi Ebuka Stephen with Registration number; TR/22B/0657/Taraba State emerged joint third best, respectively.
The first position for best CDS schedule officer went to Mr. Buhari Aliyu Karaye of Katsina State secretariat, second position, Mr. Mohammed Adams Maunde of Borno state and Ituma Emmanuel Omenka of Ebonyi state, third position.
In the category of the best collaborative partners, the Jobberman Nigeria emerged first position, OSSAP-SDGs second while Oyebuchi Chris Ifediora (OCI) Foundation emerged third position.
Speaking, the NYSC director-general charged prospective Corps Members to aspire to leave a lasting legacy through service and dedication to community development.
“The contributions of the Corps members to the development of their host communities in the areas of health, education, agriculture as well as advocacy on development issues have undoubtedly transformed them into societal custodians and vanguards, which are the salient qualities of visionary leaders.
“Without doubt, the prayers and goodwill of the beneficiaries of their services will remain their bedrock of success and attainment of greatness.
“As we relish the achievements of these young patriots, and commend their outstanding contributions, which earned them this recognition, I would like to implore serving and future generation of Corps members to emulate their lofty gestures,” Brig.-Gen. Ahmed stated.
