NYSC Seeks Review Of Corps Members’ Allowances For Polls

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called for the review of allowances being paid to corps members during elections.

NYSC acting director general, Mrs Christy Ifeyinwa Uba, made the request during a courtesy visit by the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu yesterday in Abuja.

Uba stressed that the Corps members are eager to participate in the general elections.

On his part, Yakubu said the country cannot conduct conducive elections without the support of the corps members, especially now that new technology are deployed.

“NYSC are the most reliable and readily available, the largest number, and the youngest. We can not conduct elections without them, especially now that we are deploying technology. And they are tech-savvy,” he said.

Uba described the meeting as timely, stressing that NYSC is committed to the partnership with the Commission.

She said, “A lot has been achieved. The corps members are ready. The youths are very interested and it is expected that every one that is part of the Committee will go back and cross the t’s and dot the i’s. 

“Also I want to say that NYSC is committed to the partnership with INEC, we have come a long way and we cannot go back, a lot has been achieved.”
