Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, as well as the legal luminary, Femi Falana are part of the eminent personalities expected to attend the two weeks long 50th Golden anniversary celebration of Abeokuta club holding in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
This is coming just as the club, one of the indigenous clubs of the Egba people of Ogun State since 1972, on Monday, appealed to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to pay special attention to the infrastructure development of the state capital in order to engender the necessary development befitting of a state capital.
With particular mentioning of the intra-city road networks, provision of potable water, as well as the flyover bridge at Mokola axis of the Abeokuta metropolis among others, the club said Abiodun would be writing his name in gold template if he could finish up the uncompleted projects embarked upon by his predecessor in office, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
The club’s president, Engineer Tokunbo Odebunmi, who addressed journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital as part of the activities marking the 50th anniversary celebration of the club, said the appeal became necessary in view of the fact that Abeokuta remains the center where all citizens, both federal and state civil servants are based, including members of the private sectors who converged to do businesses in the state and as such, deserved a special status in terms of infrastructural upgrading.
He explained that the ancient Egba city had since 1976 when it was created, suffered negligence in terms of infrastructural development not until Amosun’s administration came onboard in 2011.
