The closed-door meeting, held on Monday at the governor’s residence in Osubi, was attended by stakeholders from Udu and Warri South-West local government areas, along with members of the state’s peace committee on the crisis.

During the dialogue, both communities reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and agreed to uphold the resolutions reached through earlier negotiations.

Governor Oborevwori said the state was committed to lasting peace and stability in the region.

He commended community elders and youth leaders for showing restraint and a renewed willingness to find common ground over the crisis which has spanned decades, occasionally flaring into violence.

“I am encouraged by your readiness to pursue peace. What we need now is patience, understanding and unity to move forward.”

“A formal pronouncement on the terms of the settlement agreed upon by both sides would be made in the coming days” the governor assured.

Representatives of the two communities thanked the governor for his personal involvement in the reconciliation process and pledged to uphold the peace efforts initiated under his administration.

The latest dialogue was part of renewed efforts by the state government to foster dialogue and achieve a sustainable resolution.
