Ododo Gives 1,490 NYSC Members ₦20,000 Each in Kogi

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has donated ₦20,000 each to 1,490 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II service year.

The donation, which amounted to ₦29.8 million, is to assist the corps members with transportation and other immediate needs as they proceed to their respective places of primary assignment.

Ododo made the gesture at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II NYSC Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Asaya, Kabba.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development and empowerment.

He urged the corps members to be responsible in their host communities and deploy the knowledge and skills acquired during the orientation course towards community development.

Ododo said his administration had confidence in the ability of young people to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state, adding that the government would continue to strengthen youth-focused programmes aimed at enhancing productivity and self-reliance.

He charged the corps members to serve as agents of positive change by sharing useful knowledge and skills with members of their host communities and supporting initiatives that improve the lives of the people.

The governor congratulated the corps members on completing their university education and urged them to uphold discipline, integrity, patriotism and commitment to national service throughout their service year.

He also assured them of the state government’s commitment to their safety and welfare while serving in Kogi, while appealing to host communities to provide a safe and supportive environment for them.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Chris Moneke Chika Tochi, said the corps members had undergone three weeks of intensive physical, mental and moral re-orientation to prepare them for the service year.

She commended Governor Ododo for his consistent support for corps members serving in the state, particularly through the provision of food items and financial assistance.

Moneke described the latest donation as timely, saying it demonstrated the governor’s concern for the welfare of corps members.

A total of 1,490 corps members were deployed to Kogi State for the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II orientation course.
