Council of Ogoni Professionals International (COP), has lauded former president of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Professor Vincent Idemyor, over the 2023 Donald E. Franke Medal bestowed on him by the board of directors of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
COP is the umbrella body of Ogoni professionals in United States of America (USA) and North America.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday, Comrade Anslem Dornubari John- Miller, described Idemyor, as an authority in Human Immune Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS).
John-Miller also lauded the management of the University of Port Harcourt, for celebrating one of their own.
He said: “The Franke Medal is given to individuals for significant international contributions made to advance pharmacy practice. Professor Vincent Idemyor has done extensive work for the past 15 years in Nigeria.
“Prior to that, he worked for 20 years at the major hospitals/academic institutions in Chicago, Illinois. He is an authority on HIV/AIDS, and on the role science plays in the advancement of medical treatment.
“Professor Idemyor has made sustained contributions to international pharmacy practice, especially in improving outcomes for patients with HIV/AIDS.
Professor Vincent Idemyor’s work includes being instrumental in starting a faculty of pharmaceutical sciences in the University of Port Harcourt.
“In 2006, he was engaged by the United Nations Development Programme, to evaluate providers of nationwide programme in Nigeria that delivered services related to HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.”
