Ogun 2027: Students Ask Aggrieved Aspirants To Sheathe Swords

The  Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have urged aggrieved aspirants in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sheathe their swords and avoid actions capable of creating political tension in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The warning was contained in a joint statement issued yesterday by the national president of NAOSS, Comrade Olubodun Olalekan and chairman of NANS JCC Ogun, Comrade Habeeblahi Adekunle Tijani.

The student leaders specifically advised Hon. Abayomi Semako Hunye against parading himself as the APC governorship candidate, while drumming support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, as the APC governorship candidate for the election.

They said such actions could create unnecessary political tension in the state.

According to them, the APC in Ogun State had settled for Adeola as its consensus candidate, describing the decision as being in the interest of party unity, continuity and development.

They urged Hunye to accept the decision and, if dissatisfied, pursue his governorship ambition on another political platform rather than continue to create what they described as confusion within the ruling party.

The groups alleged that Hunye was being used by opposition elements and other disgruntled politicians to destabilise Ogun State.

They said the state had enjoyed relative peace and development under the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, warning that any attempt to undermine the political stability of the state would be resisted.

The student leaders also alleged that some individuals within the APC had been working against Adeola’s emergence, referring to alleged previous anti-party activities and claims contained in a recently leaked audio recording.

The student bodies said their support for Adeola was also based on what they described as his contributions to education and youth development in Ogun State.

The student leaders further cautioned against what they described as the weaponisation of provisions of the Electoral Act, arguing that participation in political campaigns did not automatically confer legitimacy on an individual’s claim to a party’s ticket.
