After months of bickering, residents and  heads of the 165 villages that make up the Orile-Ilawo Council of Baales in Odeda local government area of Ogun State at the weekend,  declared their  support for the emergence of Professor Olusegun Alexandar Macgregor as the authentic traditional ruler of Orile-Ilawo town.

This came just as the community leaders, youths, traders and traders appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to assist the community by hastening the process for the final approval of Macgregor as the traditional ruler of their communities.

The Orile-Ilawo community leaders made the declaration on Sunday when the Council of Baales paid a loyalty visit to the Oba-elect, MacGregor at his MacGregor Heritage House in Abeokuta metropolis where all the youth were also present.

Speaking on behalf of the village heads, Chief Mukaila Ajasa Oladunjoye, who is the chairman of Orile-Ilawo Baales, said the town with over 165 villages had come into the realisation that Macgregor is an angel “sent to by God Almighty” to liberate their communities from the shackles of poverty, underdevelopment, as well as destitution which indigenes, particularly the youths of the ancient Egba settlement have been subjected to over the years.”

He said, “We can’t continue to be in darkness”, Oladunjoye said the Orile Ilawo Council of Baales are ready to give the oba-elect a maximum support to enable him deliver on the promised developmental projects that will touch on the lives of everyone in the Orile-Ilawo community.”

Noting that some of them initially  opposed MacGregor’s emergence, he pointed out that they can now compare light with darkness, saying they have been in the dark from the past, but now need to move forward.

“It is like we have been in the dark from the beginning of the process. We have been able to separate darkness from the light. I can authoritatively tell you that we are now in the light by following Oba-elect Macgregor.
