The African Icon Awards has proudly unveiled Barrister Omowumi Ogunrotimi as the keynote speaker for its highly anticipated 10th anniversary celebration, which will take place on July 26th, 2025, in Abuja.

Omowumi, a distinguished Nigerian legal practitioner and the founder of Gender Mobile Initiative, has garnered acclaim for her extensive advocacy work spanning over 50 rural communities. Her initiatives have focused on creating safe spaces and empowering vulnerable populations, particularly girls and women across the African continent.

Ambassador Abraham Lawal, director of projects, admired Omowumi’s transformative contributions, noting that her efforts have positively impacted over one hundred thousand women and girls. He highlighted her recognition as one of the 20 outstanding young leaders within the Commonwealth, commending her commitment to gender justice and societal development.

On the significance of Omowumi’s keynote address, Ambassador Lawal underscored its theme, ‘The True African Leaders:

The Power of African Youth in Leadership’. “This theme resonates deeply with current challenges and opportunities for Africa’s development,” he emphasised.

The 10th anniversary of the African Icon Awards marks a significant milestone in celebrating African excellence and leadership. The event will feature a gala dinner, networking sessions, and various special activities to honour individuals who have contributed substantially in diverse sectors across the continent.

This year’s award categories reflect the breadth of African achievement and include distinctions such as Icon Woman of the Year, Young Entrepreneurial Icon of the Year, and Global Youth Ambassador of the Year, among others. Ambassador Lawal emphasised the Award’s commitment to recognising prominent figures and grassroots leaders who have made meaningful strides in advancing humanitarian causes and positively shaping our World.

With Barrister Omowumi Ogunrotimi headlining the event alongside an esteemed lineup of honorees, the 2025 African Icon Awards promises to be a momentous occasion celebrating a decade of recognising Africa’s most influential leaders and changemakers.
