Ohanaeze Inaugurates Constitution Review Committee

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has inaugurated an 18-member 2025 Constitution Review Committee.

The organisation’s national publicity secretary, Ezechi Chukwu, disclosed this yesterday in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

he said the committee is chaired by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Anthony Idigbe. Other members are Professor Chinwe Obaji, a former minister of Education, Prof. Fabian Onah, Prof. Nnamani Ogbu, Gloria Okudo AIG (rtd) and Henry Akunebu (SAN).

Others are Chief Dili Biosah, Anozie Obi, Chief Ray Nkemdirim, Hon. C.J. Okori-Akirika, Dr. Dozie Nwosu, Dr. Boniface Chima, Chief David Nwachukwu, Mr. Calistus Ekenze, Ndubuisi Agumagu, Dr. John Okolie, Okeagu Ogadah and Chizoba Iheka.

The president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, addressed the committee after its inauguration and said an effective constitution was necessary for optimal administration of the Igbo body.

According to him, his administration looked forward to strengthening the constitution to enhance transparency, credibility, trust, strong grassroot/membership participation, unity and general wellbeing of Ndigbo, irrespective of their location.

The president general (PG) charged the committee to consider the oneness and common good of the Igbo nation as paramount in the discharge of their duty.

Meanwhile, he said the committee had one month to submit its interim report before presenting it to Imeobi.

In his response, the chairman of the 2025 Constitution Review Committee, Chief Anthony Idigbe thanked Ohanaeze and the president general in particular for deeming his team worthy of the onerous task.

He assured the president general that his team would do its best to give Ohanaeze the constitution it deserves.
