Apex Igbo social-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended the Igbanke people of Edo State for asserting their Igbo ancestry.
President-general of Ohanaeze, Senator Azuta-Mbata, gave the commendation while reacting to the successful hosting of the festival of the Akiko Uwa Social Cultural Group of Igbanke.
“I bring the warmest congratulations of the entirety of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide to Akiko Uwa Social Cultural Group of Igbanke on the resounding success of the Igbanke Unity Festival, aptly themed, ‘Igbanke No be Bini.’
“This bold declaration of identity is a testament to your unwavering commitment to asserting and celebrating your authentic Igbo heritage,” he stated.
Mbata noted that by proudly affirming their Igbo ancestry, they have demonstrated resilience and pride in the face of historical misconceptions.
The Ohanaeze president-general commended their efforts in promoting unity, cultural preservation and the advancement of the Igbo nation. He described their festival as a beacon of hope and an inspiration to other Igbo communities.
Mbata assured them that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide would partner with their group in all its activities to leverage their collective strengths to promote Igbo interests and heritage.
“We shall equally incorporate the people of Igbanke in all our activities. Igbo bu ofu (Igbos are one and united). Together, we can achieve greater heights. Once again, congratulations on this great achievement. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration,” he stated.
