Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the apex Igbo social-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo has disclosed that it is not interested in partisan politics but the socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerian citizens.
The national publicity secretary of Ohanaeze, Dr Ezichi Chukwu stated this in an interview with LEADERSHIP Weekend in Enugu.
He was reacting to the recent decision of a coalition that chose ADC as a platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“Ohanaeze is not interested in partisan politics per se and is not an affiliate of any party. The concern of Ohanaeze is the socio-economic wellbeing of the citizens,” he said.
The Ohanaeze spokesman further stated that they are desirous of a system which can guarantee strong and independent institutions rather supermen and demigods.
He restated the call by Ohanaeze for restructuring which he said they see as a necessary condition for true federalism and its benefits.
Chukwu further advocated decentralisation of power and resource control.
“Consequently, Ohanaeze is a proponent of restructuring which we see as a necessary condition for true federalism and its derivatives such as decentralisation of powers, resource control, fiscal federalism, devolution of powers, easier institutional accountability and healthy competition,” he stated.
