The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide said a condolence register has been opened for its late president general, Prof George Obiozor at the national secretariat of the organisation in Enugu, while state chairmen of all the chapters, including diaspora chapters were also requested to open condolence registers in their chapters.
This was made known by the secretary general of the apex Igbo socio cultural organisation, Amb Okey Emuche while briefing newsmen after the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the organisation, in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
He said the NEC meeting was necessitated by the passing unto glory of their president-general, Prof. George Obiozor.
Emuche described Obiozor who was elected in Owerri on January, 10th 2021 as a world renowned scholar, diplomat, a lover of Igbo nation and Nigeria in general, who had served as ambassador of Nigeria to Israel, High Commissioner to Cyprus, as well as ambassador to the United States of America.
“He was a man that was deep in thought and a man that had so many jokes he will play and tell. Still, he was a man that was committed to justice, equity, fairness and inclusiveness,” he said.
He said Obiozor was elected the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo at a critical time in the history of Igbo nation and Nigeria in general.
The secretary-general regretted that some months back, the deputy president-general of the organisation, High Chief Joel Croma also passed on, even as its former president, Chief Mbazuluike Amaechi, died within the same period.
He said the burials of Amaechi and Croma have been fixed for 4th and 16th of February in Rivers and Anambra states respectively, while the family of the late president-general will announce the programmes and date for his burial in due course.
According to him, it is the first in the history of the organization to loose the Deputy President General and the President General at the same period of time, but however gave an assurance that with himself and his colleagues at the National Executive Council, the organisation is in safe hands.
“While asking for greater understanding, we are going to mourn him, but we are not going to question God. We will continue to pray for his soul to rest in perfect peace,” he said.
