Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has solicited immediate intervention of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for the victims of the massive flood disaster in Abia State.
This followed last weekend’s hours-long torrential rainfall which destroyed property and farmlands worth millions of naira in Agbaja, Okwoko, and Ukwa Nkporo in Ohafia local government area of the state.
Ohuabunwa, who represented Abia North senatorial district from 2015-2019 stated this in an interview with LEADERSHIP in Umuahia, the state capital, appealing to the state government for similar gesture.
He expressed worry over outbreak of diseases should both the agency and the government fail to come to the rescue of victims as the flood affected their main sources of drinking water.
The member of the House of Representatives for Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency from 1999-2003 recalled that he once called on the federal government to dredge the river that runs through the community against such happenstance.
Registering his sympathy for the victim, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Senate in the district in next year’s general election promised to personally visit and empathize with the victims.
