The Oranmiyan of Okoland in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State, Oba Solomon Olagoke Akinola has declared that the present location of Oko is its ancestral land, clarifying that it was never a tenanted land of any other territory.

Oba Akinola made this declaration on Monday while hosting the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbol Owoade I at Oko.

The monarch based his comment on the claims of being a tenant of Aresa-Pupa, Olugbon and some other acclaimed landlords.

“In the history of the Yorubas by Samuel Johnson, it is confirmed that the first Alaafin that ruled was Alaafin Ajaka, then followed by Sango. It was Sango that took the headquarters to Oyo-Ile. So Baba (Alaafin), this is your second home.

“Meanwhile, it was said today (Monday) by the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, that Aresa-Pupa is our landlord, it’s not so,” said Oloko.

He justified his assertion, saying every land belongs to Alaafin and that Oko as a royal lineage of Alaafin Oranmiyan logically is an inheritor of the land.

“That is the history, that is the tradition and you know as your second home, l can’t imagine how a vassal king will say that. In the history of Yoruba, they talk about vassal kings, lesser kings (awon Oba kekeke). So how can Olugbon, how can Aresa, how can Onikoyi say they are the ones that gave Oloko land when the land belonged to Oranmiyan?

“So for anybody to come and say anything in the air, it means they don’t know history. Let them go through the History of the Yorubas written by Samuel Johnson. It’s clearly written there.

“We have Oko everywhere, in Mushin Lagos State, in Ogun State, we have all over the place! we also have in Kwara. So, Kabiyesi how can an owner of land be subjected to another vassal king as reported by Samuel Johnson?

“It is not a fallacy; it’s clearly written. So, today, you came to your second home, we see it so and we believe in your leadership and we believe your leadership will take us to the next level.”
