The Attom Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to providing eye care to people in need, is set to kick off the inaugural Charity Champions Cup at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
The Charity Champions Cup aims to raise funds and awareness to support eye care treatment for at least 10,000 Nigerians, particularly the elderly, affected by vision problems such as refractive errors, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma.
At a press conference held in Abuja, on Friday, June 14,204,the Project Director Attom Foundation,Kafayat Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, expressed excitement about the upcoming event, which will feature a lineup of football legends and notable Nigerian celebrities.
“Football unifies Nigerians like nothing else,that’s why we’re using football to drive this initiative.”Kaffy said
Also speaking,the foundation’s Project Coordinator,Tariq Abubakar said,”This is a thrilling project for us,we’re grateful for the support we’ve received so far.There’s still work to be done, but we’re confident we’ll achieve our goal of providing eye care to those in need.”
The Charity Champions Cup will showcase a star-studded lineup of football legends, including current African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen, Emmanuel Eboue,George Boateng,Nigerian football icons Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Okocha, Vincent Enyeama, amongst others
In addition to raising funds for eye care treatment, the Charity Champions Cup aims to promote unity and social impact through the power of football.
The Charity Champions Cup has received endorsements from the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
