As Africa stands at the cusp of a digital transformation, Olatunde Olasehan is distinguishing himself as one of Nigeria’s leading voices in the tech-driven evolution shaping everyday life.

With deep expertise in information technology, cybersecurity, and infrastructure development, Olasehan is committed to leveraging next-generation technologies, particularly 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) to propel Africa’s economic growth and ensure inclusive access to the opportunities of the digital age.

Olatunde’s recent commentary, particularly in his thought-provoking piece “5G and IoT: Powering Africa’s Next Economic Leap?”, showcases both his technical acumen and strategic foresight. For him, technology isn’t merely a tool, it’s a gateway to equity, innovation, and long-term resilience.

In his writing and public engagements, Olatunde highlights the transformative potential of 5G’s high-speed, low-latency connectivity across Africa’s most vital sectors. He points to Nigeria’s agriculture sector, which employs a majority of the populationas a prime example. Through the integration of IoT sensors and data analytics, he argues, farmers can better monitor soil conditions, forecast crop yields, and enhance food security.

“These tools, he noted, “aren’t just about efficiency, they pave the way for climate-smart agriculture and sustainable development.”

He also highlights the healthcare sector, where 5G-enabled telemedicine and connected health devices can bridge access gaps, especially, in rural areas. In a country where the doctor-to-patient ratio is worryingly low, the ability to deliver remote diagnostics and continuous monitoring could revolutionise care delivery.

Olatunde believes Nigeria’s urban centres, such as Lagos and Abuja, where 5G pilot rollouts are already underway, offer ideal test beds for innovation. Smart traffic systems powered by IoT can ease congestion, while intelligent manufacturing processes can boost productivity and reduce costs.

But Olatunde is not blind to the challenges. His analysis remains grounded in the real-world hurdles that could stall Africa’s progress. One of the biggest concerns is infrastructure. While urban centres may enjoy growing 5G coverage, much of rural Nigeria, where millions still lack reliable connectivity, remains digitally excluded.

Then comes the issue of affordability. 5G-enabled devices, smart sensors, and high-speed internet are still luxuries for many Nigerians. For these technologies to achieve mass adoption, Olatunde emphasises the need for inclusive financing models, government subsidies, and public-private partnerships.

On the cybersecurity front, his expertise is particularly valuable. IoT devices are notoriously vulnerable, often shipped with weak security protocols, making them ideal entry points for hackers. Olatunde warns that, without strong cybersecurity frameworks, data breaches could erode trust in the very technologies meant to transform lives.

He draws attention to recent cyberattacks on industrial systems as a wake-up call. For him, securing the digital future requires proactive investment in threat detection systems, cybersecurity training, and tighter regulations. Beyond infrastructure and agriculture, Olatunde sees finance and education as major winners in the 5G-IoT revolution.

Nigeria’s digital payments industry, already leading on the continent, can benefit from 5G’s scalability and security enhancements. Real-time transactions, fraud detection, and mobile banking can be scaled up to serve millions more, especially those in underserved regions.

In education, IoT-powered smart classrooms and virtual learning platforms could make quality instruction available to students in remote areas. With better internet access, learning would no longer be limited by geography, a transformational shift for Nigeria’s large, youthful population.

A consistent theme in Olatunde’s advocacy is the importance of digital literacy. No matter how advanced the technology, he argues, its benefits will remain out of reach if people are not trained to use it. He called for nationwide training programmes, especially, in underserved communities, to equip young Nigerians with the skills to not just consume but build and secure digital systems.

He also does not overlook environmental concerns. 5G networks consume significant energy, and Olatunde advocated sustainable deployment models, such as shared infrastructure and energy-efficient systems, that align innovation with ecological responsibility.

For Africa and Nigeria in particular, to fully harness the power of 5G and IoT, Olatunde insisted that, collaboration is non-negotiable. “Governments must work alongside tech firms, academia, civil society, and development partners to create an enabling environment.

“Policies that promote digital inclusion, affordable access, and cyber resilience will be crucial in ensuring the continent’s transformation is not just technological, but also human-centred. The opportunity to build a connected, prosperous future is within reach. But it will take strategic leadership, bold action, and a shared commitment to leave no one behind,” he advised.

Education And Career
Olatunde Olasehan’s authority on these issues is rooted in both experience and education. With over seven years in the IT industry, he has designed, deployed, and secured resilient systems across sectors like telecommunications, healthcare, and enterprise IT.

He holds two master’s degrees, one in Cybersecurity and another in Information Technology, providing him with a powerful combination of technical depth and business acumen.
Olatunde holds several professional certifications, including Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Security+, ITILv4 for IT Service Management, and ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC).

He continues to deliver cybersecurity and IT solutions to businesses, enhancing operational efficiency while equipping clients to navigate future digital risks and opportunities. Beyond his technical work, Olatunde is deeply committed to mentorship, guiding young professionals as they enter and grow within the fast-evolving tech landscape.
