Olatokunbo Foundation Takes On Empowerment Through Arts, Philanthropy, Education

For over a decade, the Olatokunbo Foundation has been a steadfast pillar of support and hope for financially challenged and vulnerable children, since its inception. The Foundation has initiated numerous impactful projects, each aiming to uplift the lives of the underprivileged.

In a statement made available to journalists, the Foundation’s selfless founder, Otunba Abiola Olatokunbo, said they’re deeply committed to helping those who are disadvantaged, dedicating time and resources to the noble cause.

Speaking further, Abiola highlighted key yearly initiatives of the Foundation to include; 30 Scholarships for Students, providing scholarships to students in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, producing six graduates already, yearly Faith Outreach, distributing provisions and foodstuffs to widows during the Ileya, Easter, and Christmas festivals, vocational training programs, offering training in various skills to equip youths for economic independence, sports development projects: supporting talent hunts and development in various sports.

Abiola stressed that, the mentorship projects in Secondary Schools, including menstrual hygiene talks in girls’ schools in Surulere, visits to orphanages, regularly visiting orphanages to provide care and support, yearly welcome back to school, distributing bags, books, and other educational materials to students.

In addition, on Saturday, July 13, the Olatokunbo Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to these causes with a significant charity project at the Oshodi/Isolo local government area of Lagos State.

The event, themed; “Fortified for Impact,” was not just a celebration of the birthday of the Foundation’s founder, Otunba Abiola Olatokunbo, but a comprehensive demonstration of the Foundation’s ongoing dedication to community empowerment and development.

This community-based initiative empowered 40 families, improving their living standards above the poverty line by providing educational bursaries, cash gifts, and 300 bags of rice to the residents of Oshodi in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The charity project was a significant undertaking, distributing a bursary of N150,000 each to 10 indigent students across primary to tertiary institutions.

Additionally, 30 empowerment kits were handed out, including sewing machines, complete commercial makeup boxes, barbing kits, and grinding machines.

The tools were provided to help improve the economic independence of the recipients and their families.

And on the community engagement and celebration, the event saw a robust turnout, with representatives from government agencies, the local government chairman (ably represented by the secretary to the LGA), members of the legislative arm of the LGA, thespians from the entertainment industry, the incoming national chairman of the NURTW, community leaders, religious leaders, student advocacy groups, and other notable members of society in attendance.

In his speech at the event, Otunba Abiola Olatokunbo emphasised the importance of private citizens supporting and complementing government efforts through similar initiatives.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to utilise the tools provided for their upliftment and that of their immediate families.

His message resonated with the attendees, highlighting the crucial role of community support in driving societal change.

Mr. Adewale Oshokoya, the project director, reiterated the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to supporting the vulnerable and underprivileged. He noted that for over a decade, the foundation has been dedicated to reaching areas with minimal government impact, ensuring that the most needy receive the help they deserve.

Mr. Oshokoya assured the community that continuity remains the foundation’s watchword, as they strive to make significant and lasting improvements in the lives of Nigerians, a future of continued impact.

The Olatokunbo Foundation envisions a future where its impact grows even more profound and widespread. Plans are underway to expand its educational initiatives, providing more scholarships and resources to students across Nigeria.

The Foundation also aims to enhance its vocational training programs, ensuring that more youths acquire the skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market.

Moreover, the Foundation is set to intensify its healthcare initiatives, with a focus on providing more comprehensive medical support to underserved communities, these includes increasing access to medical diagnosis and treatment, as well as preventive healthcare measures.
