The chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund Management Board (NSITFMB), Hon. Sola Olofin, has commended the appointment of Tunji Disu as acting inspector-general of police (IGP) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as a decisive and strategically sound move in the interest of national security.

Olofin in a statement released to journalists in Lagos State emphasized that the President acted strictly within the framework of the law, which vests in him the constitutional authority to appoint the Inspector-General of Police, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

He noted that leadership within the police force should not be reduced to seniority alone, but must be anchored on proven competence, depth of experience, and the capacity to respond effectively to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

Olofin stressed that the position of Inspector-General of Police must never be subjected to considerations of tribe, ethnicity, or region, but should be determined solely by qualification, professional experience, integrity, and demonstrated capacity for leadership.

“The office of the Inspector-General of Police is central to guaranteeing a safe, orderly, and secure nation. It demands vision, discipline, strategic thinking, and operational experience. AIG Tunji Disu has consistently demonstrated these qualities over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades,” Olofin stated.

According to him, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to professionalism and performance-driven leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.

Olofin stressed that effective policing is fundamental to national development and public confidence, adding that strong, accountable leadership at the top is critical to setting the right tone for the entire institution.

“This decision goes beyond rank, tradition, or sectional sentiment. It is about positioning the right leader in a role that requires strategic oversight, operational depth, and a reform-oriented mindset. AIG Disu’s record clearly shows his capacity to meet these demands,” he added.

He called on citizens, stakeholders, and members of the police force to rally behind the new leadership, noting that collective cooperation is essential to improving security outcomes and ensuring that Nigerians feel safe across the country.
