The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has advocated foreign and local stakeholders’ support to help Nigeria defeat terrorism through cooperation and honest engagement.
Oba Ladoja also called on Nigerians to remain united and resist attempts to divide the country along religious or ethnic lines.
The monarch made this appeal while addressing the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, during the promotion ceremony of the Otun Chieftaincy Line, at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
Oba Ladoja warned that war and insecurity know no religion, noting that both Christians and Muslims, as well as traditional believers, are victims of violence and terrorism in Nigeria.
Olubadan expressed concern over the huge resources committed to fighting terrorism, lamenting that despite the efforts of successive governments, insecurity persists.
Oba Ladoja also responded to international concerns about religious persecution in Nigeria, particularly from the United States and urged the PFN President to convey his message to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other Christian bodies, emphasizing that terrorism in Nigeria is not a religious war.
He appealed for understanding and unity among Nigerians, stressing that the South-West remains a symbol of peaceful coexistence.
Oba Ladoja reiterated that the fight against terrorism, which had lasted over a decade, requires collaboration and honest communication among leaders and citizens.
He called for prayers, peace, and mutual respect as Nigeria works toward lasting security.
At the event, the Olubadan promoted some of the High Chiefs in Otun Chieftaincy Line of Olubadan where Oba Eddy Oyewole was elevated to Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi elevated to Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Hamidu Ajibade became the Asipa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Adebayo Akande was promoted as Ekerin to Olubadan of Ibadanland, and Oba Kola Babalola, SAN to Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland.
