Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday joined first ladies from 44 countries at the “Fostering the Future Together” Summit, hosted by Melania Trump at the White House, where global leaders’ spouses pushed a collective agenda to secure a better future for children and young people.
The summit, held on March 25, 2026, has been described as the largest international gathering of its kind hosted by a United States First Lady at the White House in a single day.
The high-level meeting brought together the spouses of world leaders to deliberate on collaborative approaches to advancing child-focused policies, with an emphasis on education, child protection, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
In her opening remarks, Mrs Trump called for stronger global collaboration, urging participants to deepen partnerships to address the challenges facing children in an increasingly complex, digital world.
“As people, we dream. As leaders, we progress. As nations, we will build,” she said, adding, “Beginning today, let’s accelerate our new global alliance, this bond, to positively impact the progress of our children.”
She further charged participants to host regional meetings, conduct research, and build cross-border partnerships to equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
The United States First Lady outlined key priorities for the initiative, including the development of innovative programmes, the implementation of supportive education policies, the advancement of tech-focused legislation, and the promotion of public-private partnerships.
“This room is filled with extraordinary human capital,” she said, urging leaders to harness it to “elevate your children, empower your people and accelerate your economies.”
The summit drew participation from First Ladies across Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, as well as representatives of global technology companies such as Microsoft, Google and OpenAI.
Discussions during closed-door sessions focused on emerging issues, including the role of artificial intelligence in education, the deployment of educational technology tools, digital literacy and online safety for children.
Mrs Trump had earlier launched the “Fostering the Future Together” initiative during the last United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a global coalition designed “to ensure that every child can flourish in the digital era.”
