Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has dismissed reports circulating on social media that he lost the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial primary for Delta Central in the 2027 elections, describing the claims as false and malicious.

Omo-Agege said the reports alleging that he was defeated in the primary were fabricated and politically motivated, insisting that he actually emerged winner in the contest and that the result is yet to be formally announced by the party leadership.

He attributed the rumours to what he described as “online media rats” allegedly working for political opponents, following his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“How can I be defeated? By who? How is that possible? The only challenge we have now is that we are under restraint not to announce the results,” he said.

According to him, the responsibility for formally announcing the outcome of the primary rests with the national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), not individuals or online reports.

“It is the responsibility of the national leadership of NDC. Other than that, with the organic support I have across my Senatorial District, I have cross-party appeal,” he said.

Omo-Agege maintained that his supporters across Delta Central stood by him during the contest and that he enjoys broad-based political support despite his recent party movement.

He also claimed that his emergence in the primary was being deliberately downplayed by political opponents who are uncomfortable with his influence in the district.

“I won the primaries but we are waiting for it to be formally announced by the national leadership,” he added.

Reports had earlier suggested that Omo-Agege lost the NDC Delta Central senatorial ticket to another aspirant, Olorogun Bernice Dema, but the former lawmaker has consistently rejected such claims.

He had earlier contested in the APC primaries where the party declared Senator Ede Dafinone winner with 116,252 votes against Omo-Agege’s 3,643 votes, a result he also disputed before his departure from the party.
