Omokri Dedicates First Day Of Kilimanjaro Climb To Tinubu, Nigerians

Reno Omokri has dedicated the first day of his climb to Mount Kilimanjaro to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Nigerians after learning of his appointment as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

Omokri disclosed this in a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday while documenting the start of his expedition to the highest mountain in Africa.

In the video, the newly- appointed envoy expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the appointment and pledged to serve Nigeria faithfully.

“While I was here, I found out that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed me as the Nigerian ambassador to the United Mexican States, otherwise known as Mexico. Mr. President, I’m very grateful and I thank you for this. I’m overwhelmed with joy and I promise to be faithful, loyal and honest to Nigeria,” Omokri said.

The former presidential aide explained that his decision to climb Mount Kilimanjaro was part of an effort to counter what he described as negative global narratives about Nigeria, particularly regarding insecurity.

According to him, he intends to hoist the Nigerian flag at the summit as a symbolic demonstration that the country is rising.

“Why am I climbing Mount Kilimanjaro? It’s the highest elevation in Africa. I’m doing this because recently there’s been a lot of negative propaganda about Nigeria, especially about insecurity. I want to tell the truth about Nigeria using facts, data and statistics,” he said.

Omokri cited several major cultural events in Nigeria that attracted large numbers of visitors without incidents, including Lagos’ end-of-year celebrations, the Ojude Oba festival and the Argungu Fishing Festival.

“Nigeria is politically stable and economically prosperous,” he added, encouraging tourists and investors to consider the country as a destination.
Earlier in the week, Omokri had appeared on Politics Today on Channels Television where he announced his plan to hoist the Nigerian flag atop Mount Kilimanjaro as part of a campaign to promote the country’s global image.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu on Friday approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners to various countries and multilateral missions, including the United Nations.

The president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the list comprises 31 non-career and 34 career diplomats assigned to different duty posts.

The envoys were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian senate in December 2025 after screening by its Committee on Foreign Affairs.

According to the presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to immediately commence an induction programme for the ambassadors, who will formally assume duties after receiving agrément from their respective host countries.
