The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and rescued three victims following a breakthrough enabled by Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage in Akure, the state capital.
The suspects were apprehended after a video showing the abduction of a victim in the Oda area of the state capital went viral on social media, drawing public concern and prompting swift police action.
This development was made known through a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, which was made available to journalists on Sunday.
Jimoh said the command acted on the footage and immediately deployed its intelligence and surveillance teams, leveraging digital analysis and coordinated field operations to track down those behind the crime.
According to him, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad subsequently carried out targeted operations based on credible intelligence derived from the footage, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.
He noted that the suspect during interrogation, provided useful information that led to the arrest of two other accomplices, all of whom were identified in the CCTV clip.
In a related development, the police confirmed the successful rescue of three victims linked to the suspects’ operations.
The statement reads in part “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects played various roles in the commission of the alleged kidnapping. They are identified as; Mohammed Koro ‘m’ aged; 27yrs, Muhammad Usman ‘m’ aged; 30yrs and Musa Alhaji ‘m’ aged; 23yrs.
”However, operational efforts have culminated in the successful rescue of three victims earlier kidnapped by the syndicate, namely: (1) Tosin Adesida ‘F’, (2) Adeniran Adesuyi ‘M’, and (3) Adewunmi Adewusi ‘M’. They have been debriefed and taken to nearest hospital for medical attention.
”The suspects have made useful confessional statements, which are aiding ongoing efforts to ensure the arrest of other syndicate members. They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, has reiterated the command’s resolve to rid Ondo of criminal elements, warning that the state would not serve as a safe haven for criminals.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies, assuring that proactive measures were in place to safeguard lives and property across the state.
