Former deputy governor of Kogi State, Edward Onoja, has distanced himself from reports circulating on social media that he has been appointed director general of the National Maritime Authority (NMA) by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, Onoja said he was inundated with calls and messages from several well-wishers and friends congratulating him on the purported appointment, which he described as false.
“For the avoidance of doubt, my current and only portfolio remains that of a Board Member of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), representing the North Central geopolitical zone, a responsibility for which I remain profoundly grateful to Mr. President.
“I sincerely appreciate the goodwill messages and kind words from friends, associates, and supporters. However, I wish to state categorically that I am fully committed to my present assignment and deeply dedicated to this work,” Onoja said.
The former deputy governor, therefore, called on Nigerians to stand firm behind the present administration by integrating their strengths and uniting with one heart to build a nation of collective dreams without external interference.
It would be recalled that social media platforms in Kogi State were agog on Tuesday following reports that Onoja had been appointed as Director-General of NAMA.
