The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has commended the Nigerian Army for the protection of critical national infrastructure in the Niger Delta region and across the nation.

ONSA’s director of Energy Security, Mr. Goodluck Ebelo gave the commendation yesterday when he paid a courtesy visit on the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah in Port Harcourt.

The director of Energy  Security was accompanied on the courtesy visit by the chief executive officer of New Guard Security Services Limited, Major General Jamilu Saham (Rtd).

Ebelo stated that crude oil production has significantly increased over the past two years, enabling the federal government to generate more revenue for the nation’s treasury.

He attributed this achievement largely to the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, particularly the Nigerian Army, in securing critical national assets and combating economic sabotage.

The director further praised GOC’s leadership style and expressed confidence in the Nigerian Army’s ability to sustain the current momentum in safeguarding national assets and maintaining security across the country.

Responding, Emeka, who is also the land component commander, Joint Task Force (South-South) Operation Delta Safe, congratulated Ebelo on his appointment as Director of Energy Security, ONSA.

He reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces, particularly the Nigerian Army, to ensuring that criminals do not compromise the nation’s critical infrastructure and economic assets.

The GOC assured the delegation that 6 Division would continue to intensify efforts towards protecting national assets and supporting initiatives aimed at improving security in the Niger Delta region.

Emekah identified one of the major challenges facing security agencies in the Niger Delta as the failure of some oil companies to fully implement the terms of their Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with host communities.

Noting that such failures have often resulted in protests and tensions within the communities, the GOC urged the director of Energy Security to engage relevant stakeholders and encourage oil companies to honour their agreements with host communities.
