The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has achieved zero road traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles along the Kugbo outbound corridor in Abuja, following the enforcement of its ongoing ‘Operation Safe Kugbo.’

The Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Mr Osondu Ohaeri, said this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

Ohaeri said that the feat was recorded since the launch of the operation on March 18, marking a significant breakthrough in its drive to enhance road safety within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said the Corps had, in the course of the operation, restricted no fewer than 858 articulated vehicles and trucks from operating along the corridor during peak traffic hours.

He described the development as a major safety gain, attributing it to proactive enforcement, strategic planning and sustained operational discipline by FRSC personnel.

“The initiative is rooted in the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR), particularly Section 223, as well as the FCT Traffic Regulations,” he said.

The FRSC spokesman added that the operation aligned with the Corps’ 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal One, aimed at drastically reducing road traffic crashes and improving road safety outcomes nationwide.

“At the operational level, the Unit Commander, RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka, is spearheading compliance efforts through targeted patrols, strategic positioning and real-time traffic control during peak periods,” he said.

Ohaeri stated that the operation remained ongoing, with intensified monitoring and enforcement to consolidate the gains already recorded.

He noted that the zero crash record along the corridor validated the effectiveness of restricting heavy-duty vehicles during periods of high traffic density.

The FRSC spokesman urged motorists, fleet operators and truck drivers to comply fully with the restriction order, stressing that the Corps would sustain the momentum to ensure safer roads across the FCT and beyond.
