In a prelude to the inauguration of the Bola Tinubu administration today, vice president Yemi Osinbajo conveyed his prayers for divine blessings upon the nation and the success of the incoming presidency.
Speaking at an inter-denominational church service held in Abuja as part of the 2023 presidential inauguration activities, Prof. Osinbajo led the congregation in special intercessory prayers.
The service featured heartfelt messages from clergymen and soul-stirring musical performances by renowned ministers of faith.
Osinbajo expressed his hopes for the president-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu, and vice president-elect, Senator Kashim Shetima, saying, “Tomorrow (today) a new government will be born. Just as the scripture states that Jesus Christ grew in stature, wisdom, and favor with God from birth, I pray that the president-elect and vice president-elect, as well as the new government, may similarly flourish in these virtues under the Almighty God throughout their tenure.”
The incoming first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also shared her thoughts during the service, emphasising her family’s self-sufficiency and the importance of divine grace in fulfilling their responsibilities.
She humbly acknowledged that Nigeria’s wealth belongs to all citizens and urged Nigerians to pray for the success of her husband’s administration, as they would rely on God’s guidance to meet the nation’s expectations.
Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Tinubu remarked, “God has shown us great mercy. We never imagined that this would come to pass. But we are thankful to God for giving us hope and the strength to continue the journey of life. Asiwaju is 71, and I will soon be 63. I will likely be one of the oldest first ladies Nigeria has had. We need God’s grace and the collective effort of all Nigerians to fulfill their expectations.”
She further stressed the need for unity in the country, stating that her husband’s inauguration, the seventh since 1999, represents a time of perfection for Nigeria.
Mrs. Tinubu cited the prophetic scripture from Isaiah 43:18-19, highlighting the significance of embracing new beginnings and placing trust in God’s plans.
She stated, “Today, we have heard from Psalm 133:1-3 that without unity, progress cannot be achieved. This is a time for Nigerians to come together, renew our hope, and aspire for the best for our nation, just as our young children have sung here today.
“Nigeria’s wealth belongs to all its citizens. My family has been blessed, and we do not need Nigeria’s wealth to survive; rather, we need it to do what is right. I assure you, with your support and God’s help, we will set this nation on the right path.”
The general overseer and founder of Dominion Chapel International Ministry, Archbishop John Praise Daniel, also spoke at the service, emphasizing the weight of leadership responsibilities and the crucial need for integrity, godliness, justice, and compassion among the incoming president and other senior government officials.
He urged them to prioritise the aspirations of the Nigerian people, whose hopes have often been shattered in the past.
