Dolapo Osinbajo, the wife of former vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, has commended Mrs. Ajoke, widow of the former Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed, for her pioneering efforts in horticulture and environmental conservation in Nigeria.

Dolapo, who spoke at the opening of the third edition of the Abuja Garden Show, celebrated Ajoke as a driving force behind the flourishing green revolution in Nigeria.

She hailed her dedication to preserving nature and fostering a love for plants, which has paved the way for a new generation of horticulturists and inspired sustainability in the country’s botanical landscape.

Dolapo, who spoke as the chairperson of the organising committee for the show, urged participants to explore the various opportunities available.

“It is a privilege and an honour to say a few words at this opening ceremony. I say to you, be ready for an exciting time. For plant lovers, we have plant and garden-based businesses from Abuja, as well as from Lagos and Maiduguri.

“We offer a wide range of plants, trees, pots, ornaments, garden tools and decor. Don’t miss the booths on the green near the gate and others in this marquee. Tap into their wealth of experience, chat with someone, and learn something new.

“For the ladies, we have booths offering garden-inspired fashion, plant-dyed fabrics, and much more. When you need a lunch break, there are food booths, tea, and—did someone say ice cream? There’s something for everyone. There’s also a special ‘Lover’s Walk’ for couples and families to take pictures, walk together, and strengthen bonds.”

“You can take pictures on the garden seat surrounded by flowers or by the peacock plant stand. Everything here is just for you. Thankfully, the Abuja Garden Show lasts for three days, so you can return tomorrow or the day after. Be sure to enjoy everything prepared just for you,” she said.

She further emphasied the garden’s significance: “This garden, the Sirius Palmatum and Botanic Garden, began in 2006 due to the vision of Her Excellency Mrs. Ajoke Muhammed. We are in a very special place; I imagine the air quality here is the best in Abuja, perhaps even in Nigeria, due to the vast variety and density of trees and plants in this garden.”

“In her garden, she houses more than 200 species of palms from all over the world, along with an unbelievable collection of plants. She is one of those who strive to save the planet, and I admire her desire to bring all of us along.”

“She has made room in her beautiful garden to support others in horticulture. Let us celebrate her for her hard work, generosity, and trailblazing efforts. We celebrate you, Mama,” she added.

The show featured garden exhibits, seminars, garden equipment, shopping and more.
