A frontline traditional ruler in Osun State, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, on Wednesday called for the emergence of Dr Akin Ogunbiyi as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the August 8th, 2025, governorship election.

Oba Akanbi pushed for his candidacy when the gubernatorial aspirant visited him as part of his consultative visits to stakeholders and prominent people in Osun State.

The royal father noted that the Iwo zone is ripe enough to produce a governor of Osun, adding that the zone has eminently qualified people for the exalted seat.

His words: “Dr Akin Ogunbiyi is our son in Iwo, and I pray that almighty God who installs governors will make him the next governor of Osun State.

“We must all be involved in politics. Every human being must be involved. We don’t have any other person. We will support other than our son, Akin Ogunbiyi.

“We have been marginalised. We have nothing and can only salvage the situation so that our children can occupy good positions.

“Iwo, Ile-ogbo, Kuta, and other surrounding towns are one. We cannot function in isolation. We must all work together for the progress of our communities.

“When Tinubu came out to contest in 2023, I supported him because he is a Yoruba man and I can’t go for another candidate who is not the son of the soil.”

Earlier, the governorship hopeful told the monarch that he came for a royal blessing, adding that his home base, Ile-ogbo, is within Oba Akanbi’s jurisdiction.

He urged the monarch to rally support for him, adding that if elected governor, he would not disappoint him or the people of Osun.
