The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over alleged post-election attacks on its members and supporters across the state, warning that continued violence could plunge Osun into a fresh crisis.

The party, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, alleged that supporters of the Accord Party had carried out attacks in parts of the state following the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as winner of the governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The APC alleged that some of its members were attacked in Oke-Fia, Osogbo, on Monday, while similar incidents were reported at Amudaoba in Modakeke and in Iba, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

It also alleged that the house of one of its members, identified as Akibu Olateju, was destroyed at Ilie in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

According to the party, four motorcycles belonging to its members were burnt in Modakeke shortly after the election results were announced, while the shop of a female APC member was also allegedly destroyed.

The APC further alleged that a video circulating on social media showed some individuals whipping the woman with horse tails.

The party said the alleged attacks had also extended to local government areas and motor parks, claiming that some individuals were attempting to force their way into council premises and motor parks with the aid of armed hoodlums.

The APC warned that the alleged attacks could trigger reprisal actions if not immediately checked.

“We condemn in its entirety the needless violent attacks of our members by the Accord Party hoodlums as it’s a threat to public peace capable of plunging the state into a full-blown crisis should there be reprisal attacks by our members,” the statement said.

The party called on the Osun State Police Command to investigate the alleged attacks, arrest those responsible and prosecute them according to the law.

It also urged Governor Adeleke to call what it described as “attack dogs” allegedly responsible for the violence to order, warning that continued attacks could lead to a wider breakdown of law and order.

The APC advised the governor to manage his victory responsibly and prevent what it described as an avoidable crisis that could further destabilise the state.

The party also alleged that some local government chairmen and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were attempting to reassert control over council areas and motor parks through the use of political thugs.

The APC, however, did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the allegations or confirm the identities of those it accused of carrying out the attacks.
