Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke,  has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a work-free day for public servants across the state to enable them to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

The directive, contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, applies to all categories of public servants, including local government workers and staff of tertiary institutions.

A statement signed on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the decision was aimed at allowing workers to perform their civic responsibilities ahead of the election and future electoral activities in the state.

The state government, however, exempted workers on essential duties, including medical and security personnel, urging them to make necessary arrangements to ensure public services are not affected.

Governor Adeleke also encouraged public servants and other registered voters who have yet to collect their PVCs to do so without delay.

“I encourage all registered voters to reach all the collection points without delay.

“Your vote is your power. Your voter card is your licence to the ballot paper and by extension to the ballot box,” Adeleke said.

The 2026 Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party seeking re-election.

Other major contenders include All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji and African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared 14 political parties to participate in the election, while the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party will not field candidates in the poll.
