Wife of Osun State Governor, Erelu Ngozi Adeleke, has lauded the benevolence and empowerment initiative of Olori Janet Afolabi Foundation.
She gave the commendation at a summit and empowerment programme organised for rural women by the foundation to commemorate this year’s International Day of Rural Women at Apomu, Isokan local government area of Osun State.
The Osun First Lady who commended Olori Janet Afolabi for the kind gesture, noted that empowering rural women is central to improving rural livelihoods and enjoined beneficiaries to pay back the loans on time so that others can benefit.
Earlier in her welcome address, Olori Janet Afolabi emphasised the need to empower the women by virtue of their importance in home survival adding that the interest free loan will go a long way to boost the business capacity of the beneficiaries.
Her words: “Today belongs to you. It is dedicated to appreciate you for your hard work and resilience as the backbone of food production, My mission is to provide access to credit to enable you start or grow your businesses, this we have been doing since October 2020”
She charged beneficiaries to use the loan for the purpose for which it was given. She also used the opportunity to tell the women to discourage child marriage and encourage their girls to complete their education.
In his keynote address, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, the Alapomu of Apomu, noted that the event serves as a reminder that millions of women in rural communities need assistance from basic necessities to financial aid adding that it is imperative to celebrate them because they toil every day to contribute to agricultural production and food security.
