Pensioners in Osun State have commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for saving them from untimely death by enrolling them in the state government’s health insurance scheme free of charge.
The state government had enrolled 20,000 pensioners on its health insurance scheme free of charge in 2025 in a bid to ensure they have access to quality health care services.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, the leadership of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Osun State chapter, noted that the enrollment of its members on the scheme by Governor Adeleke has reduced death rate among members of the union in the state.
The Osun NUP Secretary, Comrade Lawrence Aina said the policy has afforded retirees the opportunity to access quality health services.
He described the governor’s gesture as a soul saver, especially in the face of rising costs of accessing medical care across the country.
Aina said the monthly pension being received by its members is not enough to take care of feeding not to talk of expending it on medical bills, hence, the policy of enrollment of the health insurance scheme provides relief for pensioners and members of their families.
The pensioners however appealed to the government to upgrade the assistance being offered presently by taking responsibility for full payment of charges on any operation requested for by the pensioners.
