The Planning and Strategy Officer of the APC G-Thirty-Seven (G-37) Group, Mr Miriki Ebikibina, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for a free, fair and peaceful governorship election in Osun State as a watershed in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.

Ebikibina, who spoke in a statement after participating in the G-37 election monitoring delegation to the August 15, 2026, governorship poll, said the election would be remembered not only for its outcome but also for the determination of the people of Osun State to defend the sanctity of their votes.

According to him, the electorate demonstrated uncommon courage and commitment to democracy despite prevailing challenges, insisting that the conduct of the poll reflected growing confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

“The people of Osun stood firm in defence of democracy and proved that the power of the ballot remains the ultimate expression of the people’s will. Their resilience should serve as a model for other states across the federation.”

Ebikibina commended President Tinubu for providing what he described as the political will that ensured a peaceful electoral process, noting that the President’s insistence on credible elections reinforced public confidence in democratic institutions.

He also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for exhibiting professionalism, neutrality and discipline throughout the exercise.

“When institutions are allowed to function independently and professionally, democracy flourishes. INEC and the security agencies discharged their responsibilities creditably and deserve commendation,” he stated.

The APC strategist, who previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs and was a key strategist in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s 2018 and 2022 election campaigns, congratulated Adeleke on his re-election and urged him to embrace inclusive governance.

He called on the governor to see his renewed mandate as an opportunity to deepen development, improve the welfare of citizens and strengthen unity across Osun State.

Meanwhile, Ebikibina also hailed the homecoming reception organised in honour of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr Peter Akpe, in Sagbama, describing the event as historic and a reflection of the people’s appreciation for his leadership and commitment to grassroots development.

He said the overwhelming reception accorded the deputy governor underscored the confidence reposed in him by the people, adding that his dedication to public service had earned him widespread admiration and respect within the community.
