Ouida Books, a leading publishing house in Lagos, has launched Get Rid of Your Phone, Mummy, a transformative children’s book by Nigerian-based writer and fashion consultant Mazzi Odu. The launch attracted notable figures in the literary and arts community, including Chief Charles Anyian-Osigwe, sponsor of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Awards, award-winning author Henry Akubiro, fashion designer Kelechi Odu, and multiple award-winning author and CEO of Ouida Books, Lola Shoneyin. Also in attendance was renowned arts and book editor Dr. Olaokun Soyinka.

The event featured a book reading, an engaging discussion with the author, and a signing session. Get Rid of Your Phone, Mummy, illustrated by Adulphona Imuede, explores the impact of digital distractions on parent-child relationships. The story follows Tobe, a five-year-old girl in Lagos whose mother is constantly on her phone. With the help of a magical character, Uduak, Tobe, and her best friend Simi experience a digital detox that allows their mothers to reconnect with them.

Speaking at the event, Mazzi Odu admitted that her personal experience inspired the book. “I am so guilty, I wrote a book about it! I am delighted that the book resonates with readers,” she said.

Ouida Books CEO Lola Shoneyin described the book as a “fun and transformative read highlighting the challenges children face in an era dominated by digital devices.” She emphasized the importance of reviving a reading culture among children through engaging bedtime stories.
