Condemnation has trailed the brazen attack on the convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, leading to the death of his Police Orderly, in Benin City, on Thursday.

The incident has elicited public outrage with prominent political figures, including Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, expressing their solidarity and support for Okpebholo.

In a powerful statement, Oshiomhole declared, “Dirty politics has no place in 21st Century Nigeria. We must play politics with ideas, integrity, and impact, not by taking innocent lives that cannot be replaced.”

Senator Okpebholo, currently representing Edo Central in the Senate, has earned the trust and respect of his constituents. Despite the attempt on his life, his legacy of achievements and his commitment to the people remained unshaken. As Oshiomhole aptly put it, “You can kill Monday Okpebholo, but you cannot kill his results, track record, reputation, and the love the ordinary people of Edo State have for him.”

The attack, allegedly orchestrated by agents of a rival political party, has raised serious concerns about the state of political affairs in Edo State. The alleged involvement of the State’s Commissioner of Police has further exacerbated the situation, leading to calls for immediate action. “This incident reveals the true character of the PDP and their philosophy for Edo State,” said Oshiomhole. “We refuse to be intimidated and call on the Inspector General of Police to transfer the Commissioner of Police immediately.”
