At least ten million farmers in Nigeria have fully adopted the Tingo Mobile’s smartphone application which enables them conduct their business transactions seamlessly from the comfort of their homes.
Recall that Tingo Group, a leading provider of fin-tech solutions in Nigeria had reached deals foremost farmers’ association, AFAN on supply and storage of farms produce, particularly rice and wheat as the firm makes inroads to export business.
Announcing this in a statement date June 7, the National President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Dr. Farouk Rabiu Mudi expressed satisfaction with the progress being made in the partnership with Tingo Mobile.
“The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) is pleased to announce a noteworthy progression in its lease and service agreement with Tingo Mobile Limited, a significant provider of mobile and fintech solutions in Nigeria.
“As of today, AFAN reports that an estimated 11 million of its members have adopted Tingo Mobile’s smartphone and fintech applications, including the Nwassa platform, as part of their daily operations”, the statement read in part.
According to Dr. Mudi, this in an indication of a considerable progress being made in achieving the goal and objective of AFAN in granting access to advanced mobile technology and financial services to its members.
The company had also launched a multibillion Naira food processing facility in Delta state expected to serve the Nigerian and West African market.
The statement said further, “In addition, some members have started making their produce available for processing to Tingo Foods Plc, an affiliate of Tingo Mobile.
“This development is a modest but promising step in AFAN’s partnership with the Tingo Group.”
Dr Farouk Rabiu Mudi noted that the partnership with Tingo is an opportunity for AFAN members to grow by adopting digital technology, following the implementation of cashless policy announced the the Central Bank of Nigeria since 2007.
The firm’s agric technology solution is created to assist farmers increase their profitability and end wastage of food.
According to Dr. Mudi, “We are encouraged by the progress we have seen through our partnership with Tingo Mobile. The use of digital technology among our members is growing, and some of our farmers have started to engage with Tingo Foods Plc.
“We remain hopeful for more growth and improved utilisation of the products and services offered by Tingo and its group of companies.”
He added that this collaboration underscores AFAN’s dedication to modernising agricultural practices and ensuring its members are given the necessary tools to adapt in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
