Former Nigerian international footballers, Felix Owolabi and Sylvanus Okpala, have confirmed their attendance at the second edition of the prestigious Newstap/SWAN Awards, scheduled for Friday, 6th March, in Lagos.
Confirming their presence, both noted their satisfaction with the calibre of the awards and expressed their desire not to miss the event. In separate interviews, they stated: “We monitored the first edition and discovered that it was not like other awards where people are indiscriminately nominated for recognition. Like the first edition, we found that those being honoured were carefully nominated and have genuinely contributed to the development of the country’s sports, and we can’t afford not to be a part of it.”
The Newstap/SWAN Five Star Sports Award was established to honour five eminent Nigerians and corporate bodies who have made immense contributions to the development of sports in the country.
Those set to be honoured at this second edition include Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri; NIS DG/CEO, Rt. Honourable Comrade Philip Shaibu; MD/CEO Nilayo Sports Management Company Ltd, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade; Club owner Chief Robert Onyeani; and internationally acclaimed boxing promoter, Honourable Omonlei Yakubu Imadu.
The event will take place at the Blessing Hall of the prestigious Eko Club, off Bode Thomas Street, Surulere, Lagos.
