Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved a six-month temporary wage increase for all workers and pensioners in the state. This measure aims to alleviate the impact of the current economic situation.

Workers will receive a N15,000 increase per month, while pensioners will see a N10,000 monthly boost.

Additionally, outstanding July 2018 salaries for local government workers and primary school teachers across all 16 local government areas will be paid.

The wage increase will be reviewed after six months or upon reaching an agreement on a permanent minimum wage for workers.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser, Yinka Oyebode, the increase for pensioners takes effect immediately (December 2023).

This decision fulfils Governor Oyebanji’s pledge to prioritise the welfare of workers and address outstanding entitlements owed by previous administrations.

Earlier, he implemented several other measures to ease the burden of subsidy removal, including paying some outstanding benefits, extending the minimum wage to senior workers (levels 14-17), and providing shuttle buses for workers and students.

Governor Oyebanji commended Ekiti workers for their dedication, reliability, and understanding, urging them to continue serving as the “engine room” of the government. He assured them that his administration would continue to prioritise their well-being within available resources.
