Ekiti State governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has called for support for the families of Nigeria’s fallen heroes.
Oyebanji counselled that being benevolent by lending a hand of fellowship to the victims, remains the best way to imbue the spirit of soldiers at the battlefields to win the war against terror and bandits.
The governor, who saluted the Armed Forces for making the sacrifices and paying the ultimate price to make Nigeria a nation of pride, dignity and honour globally, spoke yesterday at a special church service to mark the 2026 edition of the Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Speaking during the service held at the Government House Chapel, Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital, yesterday, Oyebanji who was represented by his deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye, commended the soldiers for the resilient and spirited efforts in defending the nation’s territorial integrity by subduing the multifaceted crises of banditry, insurgency and kidnapping across geopolitical zones.
He described the celebration as specially designed by the federal government to honour and venerate the patriotism, sacrifice, and courage of military veterans, reaffirming assurances that their efforts will not be in vain.
The governor stated that, although the country is currently being pummeled by a series of security crises, he noted that the citizens will eternally be grateful for the sacrifices the soldiers and other security agencies are making to secure the populace.
Oyebanji expressed his administration’s appreciation to all the security agencies for their concerted efforts, which have made Ekiti the most peaceful state in the country. He urged them to sustain the synergy that has helped in accomplishing this remarkable achievement.
“I appreciate the men and officers of the Nigerian Army for the enormous task they are discharging to the Nigerian people, particularly putting their lives on the line to protect the territorial integrity of our nation.
“We salute these sacrifices that have helped in making the country a nation of pride, dignity and honour.
“Most importantly, I want to assure you that our government will continue to support the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to achieve the task of making Ekiti State a safe and peaceful environment for businesses and habitation.
“With the concerted efforts of the security chiefs and their men, Ekiti has been rated as the most peaceful in the country. I charge you to keep the tempo and be assured that we will continue to provide the required motivations and support that will facilitate the efficiency of all security outfits to discharge their duties zealously and professionally.”
In his sermon at the Ekiti State Government House Chapel, Pastor Segun Awolumate described security as a collective task that must be taken seriously by Nigerians, saying the nation has been bedevilled by multifaceted crises due to the negligence displayed by citizens.
